Circumnavigation of the world (1803-1806)
The circumnavigation of the world was one of the most important and fruitful voyages of the 19th century due to new discoveries and the detailed recording and exploration of previously little-known lands and seas.
The expedition led from Kronstadt via Tenerife and the Brazilian island of St. Catherine, Cape Horn, the Marquesas Islands in the South Seas (Nuku Hiva), Nagasaki, Kamchatka, the coasts of Japan and Sakhalin, the Aleutian and Kuril Islands via Macao, China and the Cape of Good Hope back to Europe in August 1806.
